In sum – what to know:

Enterprise cloud modernization – The agreement targets large-scale migration of legacy systems to AWS using automation and AI-driven tooling.

Industry-specific cloud offerings expand – NTT DATA plans to deliver repeatable solutions for regulated sectors using its Industry Cloud platform.

Sovereign cloud – As an AWS European Sovereign Cloud launch partner, NTT DATA will support customers with strict data residency requirements.

NTT DATA has signed a multi-year strategic collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) aimed at accelerating enterprise cloud modernization and the adoption of agentic AI across regulated and high-growth industries.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will focus on helping enterprises migrate and modernize legacy on-premises systems, deploy AI-enabled cloud architectures, and operate compliant cloud environments at scale. The collaboration brings together NTT DATA’s cloud transformation and AI capabilities with AWS infrastructure and services.

The partnership prioritizes four areas. The first is large-scale cloud migration and modernization on AWS, using automation, data platforms, and generative and agentic AI to support operational efficiency and new digital use cases.

The second focuses on industry-specific cloud offerings, built on NTT DATA’s industry cloud platform, targeting sectors such as financial services, healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, retail, energy, and the public sector.

A third area covers AI and data innovation for managed services and customer experience platforms, including work to modernize contact center deployments using Amazon Connect.

The fourth centers on digital sovereignty, with NTT DATA acting as a launch partner for the AWS European Sovereign Cloud to support customers with strict data residency and operational autonomy requirements.

To support delivery, NTT DATA has created a dedicated AWS Business Group aligned with AWS sales and delivery teams. The group currently includes close to 11,000 AWS-certified professionals, with a goal of certifying nearly 10,000 additional experts over the next three years.

“Cloud and AI are central to enterprise transformation,” said Abhijit Dubey, president and CEO at NTT DATA. “Through our strategic collaboration agreement with AWS, we are helping clients move beyond experimentation to scale AI impactfully and responsibly.”

“This collaboration will help more enterprise organizations unlock the potential of the cloud and AI to modernize their operations and accelerate innovation,” said Greg Pearson, VP AWS global sales. “Through industry-aligned architecture platforms, AI-driven customer experiences, and support in meeting evolving regulatory requirements through the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, we’re enhancing the ability to transform legacy workloads and build modern digital experiences on AWS.”

NTT DATA said it will develop new industry-focused AI-enabled cloud solutions on AWS, supported by advisory, implementation, and managed services. The initiative also expands its smart AI agent ecosystem, aimed at supporting enterprise AI deployment at scale.

NTT Global Data Centers, part of NTT DATA, is reshaping its strategy to keep pace with the rapid shift toward AI-heavy workloads, COO Joe Pace, recently told RCR Wireless News in an episode of Rack to RAN.

Pace said the company is taking a “multi-pronged approach” rooted in global expansion, AI-ready infrastructure, and long-term sustainability commitments.

“We’re taking a multi-pronged approach to it,” Pace said. “First, we are working on global expansion. We’ve acquired land in seven markets like  Frankfurt, Osaka, Phoenix and Milan, and we’re growing our global footprint. And that land alone is over a gigawatt worth of expansion capacity,” Pace said.
