First 'Global South' AI summit kicks off with PM Modi
Today in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Summit – the first major international AI summit hosted in the Global South, a region of developing economic status that includes Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Oceania. In a display of contrasts, CEOs from the world’s wealthiest companies gathered with dignitaries and world leaders in an economically challenged region in which AI’s impact on human development could be on display. In his opening statements, Modi called, “the responsible and inclusive use of artificial intelligence,” promoting the concept of “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” (welfare for all, happiness for all). Modi also heavily emphasized the importance of India in AI, not only as a critical growth market, but also as one of the largest talent pools, with more than 5 million young tech professionals and the world’s second-largest pool of AI developers. RCRTech will report each day on the five-day event. Check in each morning for summaries of the event’s highlights.
