That’s a pretty big declaration. And it came from no less a tech authority than Apple CEO Tim Cook — who also said that Apple has catch-up work to do in AI, and the company is shifting investments and people to focus on AI accordingly. Investing in AI is the theme of the day, with Apollo Asset Management making waves and staking its claim to Stream Data Centers, while indicating that it wants to “significantly scale” further digital infrastructure investments in the coming years. Softbank is putting billions into Nvidia, Oracle and TSMC (mostly Nvidia). Meanwhile, LG CNS builds the first Korean data center abroad, and China Tower sees a payoff as it shifts from traditional to smart infrastructure. Let’s jump in!

AI Infrastructure Top 3

Apollo buys SDC: Asset management group Apollo bought a majority stake in Stream Data Centers, planning an influx of cash to speed up site development and to use Stream as a vehicle for further infra investments.

Korea’s AI export begins: LG CNS is set to build Korea’s first overseas AI data center in Jakarta, delivering Indonesia’s largest AI facility with eco-friendly infrastructure, GPU capabilities, and telecom-neutral access by 2026.

China Tower eyes AI edge: China Tower’s profit rose 8% in H1 2025 as growth shifts from traditional towers to smart infrastructure, including AI-powered services, green energy systems, underground connectivity, and edge computing.

AI Today: What You Need to Know

Softbank’s big AI bets: Softbank tripled its billion-dollar stake in Nvidia during the past quarter, Bloomberg reports. The Japanese tech company also bought around $330 million worth of TSMC stock and $170 million in Oracle stock.

Bigger than the Internet: At an Apple all-hands meeting, CEO Tim Cook said that AI is “as big or bigger” than the Internet — and that Apple has catch-up work to do. It’s reallocating spending and people to focus on AI.

More on edge AI chip wars: The U.S. aims to lead in AI by tightening chip controls, tracking exports, and countering China. Amid tech tensions, TSMC faces internal leaks of secrets on next-gen 2nm chip development.

Amazon taps wind in India: AWS has  signed a long-term PPA with Gentari for 80 MW of wind energy in Tamil Nadu, reinforcing its net-zero commitment and supporting major cloud infrastructure expansion across India.

New permitting changes: The Trump administration has made significant changes to permitting for data centers. Here’s a breakdown of the implications: What size projects qualify for expedited review, and how federal funding and siting plays in.

Detecting deepfakes: Cybersecurity company Norton has added new capabilities to detect AI-generated content, including deepfakes, to its mobility suite. Users can analyze audio and visual content for signs of AI tampering.

Gemini AI hacks a home: In what is believed to be a first, security researchers hacked Google’s Gemini AI using a calendar invite with embedded prompts that triggered the AI to make real-world changes in a smart home.

Infrastructure bottlenecks: AI demand is scaling exponentially, but infrastructure — especially power infrastructure — is not. Infrastructure bottlenecks lie ahead. This piece looks at implications for the U.K., but it’s a widespread issue.

Modular data centers: Vertiv has launched a new pre-fabricated data center, OneCore, aimed at supporting rapid scaling. OneCore integrates power, thermal, and IT infrastructure and is delivered as a turnkey offering.

Oracle’s new event: Oracle, fresh off a quarter with a massive boost from AI, now sees AI as so central to its business that it is changing the name of its flagship event to Oracle AI World. It’ll be in Las Vegas in October.

Upcoming Events

This one-day virtual event will discuss the critical issues and challenges impacting the AI infrastructure ecosystem, examining the growth and evolution of the AI ecosystem as it scales and the need for flexible, sustainable solutions.
