Telco trends take shape

Nvidia and OpenAI helped create 'bull market'

The AI era is reshaping telecom faster than anyone anticipated — and Nvidia is positioning itself as a key enabler. As operators race to modernize networks and monetize new capabilities, they’re increasingly turning to accelerated computing, AI-native architectures, and developer ecosystems to make it happen. Nvidia’s Ronnie Vasishta shares how telcos are already using AI to reimagine infrastructure, launch services faster, and unlock entirely new revenue streams — and why the next phase of telecom growth will be built around AI.

Meanwhile, Europe’s Open RAN journey is accelerating. Vodafone and Samsung are teaming up to expand O-RAN deployments across the continent, starting in Germany. The rollout combines AI-driven network automation with energy-efficiency gains — key ingredients for building more agile, sustainable, and software-centric networks. Together, these two stories show how AI and openness are converging to transform telecom from the ground up — and faster than most expected.

Elsewhere, operators are fortifying their positions in a shifting market. T-Mobile US’ new Cyber Defense Center and Executive Briefing Center underscore the growing importance of security and trust in the 5G era — blending proactive threat mitigation with real-time intelligence and enterprise collaboration. In France, Bouygues Telecom, Free-iliad Group, and Orange are regrouping after Altice rejected their joint bid for its telecom operations, a decision that could reshape competitive dynamics in one of Europe’s largest markets. And in Italy, a standoff between the government and KKR over FiberCop’s future — including calls for a merger with Open Fiber — highlights the geopolitical and regulatory pressures shaping strategic network decisions.
