Rising competition in the rural broadband market

Hello. The U.S. rural broadband market is in the midst of a shake-up. According to an Ookla report, speeds are rising among larger wireless broadband providers that are dominant in these parts. At the same time, the speed test found that satellite internet service too is getting stronger. Starry, now a part of Verizon, despite having the highest median download speeds, might lose ground to LEO satellite providers like Starlink that deliver even faster speeds.

Meanwhile, a concerted effort is being made to make 5G NR-NTN a commercial reality. After Keysight last week, Samsung and Rohde & Schwarz, have successfully validated the first 5G NR-NTN test cases in accordance with the 3GPP test specifications for RF, radio resource management and protocol conformance testing domains. The device under test is Samsung’s latest NR-NTN chipset, and the test equipment, R&S TS8980 Conformance Test Platform, the R&S TS-RRM and the CMX500. The validations will prove essential to ensuring compliance of both the networks and their devices.
