Wi-Fi 8

Hello. The recent wave of collaborations between test and measurement providers and technology heavyweights represent not just routine alliances for the benefit of the greater industry — but a strategic effort that hints at where the companies see their future competitive advantages.

Hitting the headlines yet again, Rohde & Schwarz has expanded its partnership with Broadcom. The companies are working together to test and validate Wi-Fi 8 chipsets and bring to market easy to use pre-built test with the R&S CMP180 radio communication tester. The alliance is designed to accelerate OEMs and ODMs’ adoption of Broadcom’s upcoming Wi-Fi 8 chipsets, and help bring products faster to market with guanrateed conformity and reliability.

In a new development, wireless internet service providers (WISPs) tested in Ookla’s Monday report have pushed back disputing the findings. Ookla reported that the top eight U.S providers scored below FCC’s speed benchmark of 100/20 Mbit/s. Although the report acknowledged performance gains among all referenced providers, it said that their performance “varies greatly”. WISPA, in an email to Light Reading, called it “fatally over-inclusive and just plain wrong”.
