This week saw the closure of two major acquisitions in the test and measurement industry, and with it, a new phase of cross-border growth. Keysight Technologies officially closed its $1.46 billion acquisition of Spirent Communications, further strengthening its global position in network testing. Following that announcement, Viavi Solutions also finalized its takeover of Spirent’s testing business lines.
Keysight and Viavi had gone head-to-head to acquire Spirent, with Keysight ultimately outbidding Viavi in the end. However, on DOJ’s order, Keysight agreed to divest Spirent’s high-speed ethernet, channel emulation, and network business lines to Viavi. Viavi expects the addition, besides expanding its ethernet testing portfolio, will boost its network and service enablement revenue.
Meanwhile, Samsung and Vodafone are tagging teams to deploy Open RAN in Germany and across Europe in what would be EU’s biggest O-RAN deployment. The telecom giant will use Samsung’s O-RAN equipment and vRAN software for the rollout.
