Neoclouds take a hit after midterms
While broader markets and mega-cap hyperscalers rallied as the midterm election results came in, neoclouds and specialized AI infrastructure providers faced sharp sell-offs yesterday – a trend that thus far continued today, with double-digit drops. As of publishing, IREN was down about 15%, Nebius about 14%, and Coreweave about 12%.
Stock prices are dropping as anxiety grows around heavy debt loads, interest expenses, and front-loaded capex – challenges that have now combined with uncertainty about what Democrat-led regulations in the industry will mean.
For example, CoreWeave partner Core Scientific formally added data center construction moratoriums in its Q3 SEC 10-Q filing today, which made investors consider what other HPC landlords, colocation partners, and digital infrastructure developers may do as they reassess risk factors across state, local, and municipal jurisdictions.
IREN is scheduled to report its Q1 FY27 results after the market close today, with a conference call set for 5:00 PM ET. Nebius and CoreWeave earnings calls will take place next week.

The AI traffic effect: Fiber availability, optical capacity, route diversity and predictable network performance are increasingly important components of AI infrastructure, opening new opportunities for network operators.
AI Today: What You Need to Know
Blue Wave was good for hyperscalers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, and Alphabet added more than $750 billion in combined market value, with investors anticipating regulations will slow down immediate capex.
Agility Robotics debut on Nasdaq: Nvidia-backed humanoid robot maker Agility Robotics made its U.S. debut on the Nasdaq today, with financial disclosures that detail how the company will rent and sell humanoid robots to perform manual labor.
Moonshot bypass U.S. controls: Chinese AI lab Moonshot AI has sought to bypass U.S. export controls by negotiating rental access to advanced Nvidia Blackwell GPUs hosted in European neocloud data centers.
OpenAI ‘Power Pledge’: OpenAI says its new Grid Protectors Program would pay the full cost of powering data centers it owns and operates, solicit community input, publish construction plans and avoid using NDAs with public officials.
Fiber deficity in U.S.: Because AI tools require more infrastructure to respond to chatbot queries, hyperscalers are increasingly locking in agreements with fiber manufacturers, like Corning or startups developing technologies.
